Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director-producer Naoki Yoshida held a live-cam session in which he answered fan questions about what to expect in the upcoming revamp of the original 2010 game. Among features he discussed were chocobo breeding, a pet system, and the return of a recurring series antagonist.
“You’ll be able to set up a chocobo stable and purchase a baby chocobo to raise,” Yoshida said about the chocobo breeding system. “Once you have a chocobo stable you will also be able to do things like breed chocobos and train them.”
He also talked about players being able to own pets in the “minion system,” which was directly related to the concept art of a baby behemoth he released at the beginning of the year. “Basically they are pets that you can bring along with you. These pets will be referred to as “minions.” We are planning to introduce a variety of minions so stay tuned! Also, these minions are items and that means players will be able to trade minions with other players.”

Lastly, he confirmed the return of Gilgamesh, a boss originally featured in Final Fantasy V and has made appearances in almost all FF games since then: “We have plans to introduce Gilgamesh through a series of quests. The quests will most likely be introduced in stages.”
Yoshida is planning on making major updates a little over every two months, with a possible expansion coming out sometime in 2015. The summary of the full interview can be read here.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be available this year for Playstation 3 and PC.
